Wow. The BSA goes after
Ernie Ball. This guy makes so much sense! Like here:
CNet: So what kind of Linux setup do you have?
SB: You know what, I'm not the IT guy. I make the business decisions.
I want to kiss him! He actually sounds rational! Of course, go figure: he's the #1 manufacturer in the country (or so he claims). But still, how about his take on the myth of service?
CNet: But there's a real argument now about total cost of ownership, once you start adding up service, support, etc.
SB: What support? I'm not making calls to Red Hat; I don't need to. I think that's propaganda...What about the cost of dealing with a virus? We don't have 'em.
This is so absolutely true: when was the last time you called Microsloth for desktop support? It's more painful than the DMV. Altho I will concede that the lack of a browser on every desktop is a daunting thought to me. I think about the hundreds of ways in which HTML is useful. Then I think about the hundreds of ways in which HTML wastes time (like,
now, f'rinstance).
Other tasty bits:
SB: It's just software. You have to figure out what you need to do within your organization and then get the right stuff for that.
SB: I thank them for opening my eyes, because I'm definitely money ahead now and I'm definitely just as productive, and I don't have any problems communicating with my customers. So thank you, Microsoft.
And my absolute personal favorite:
SB: We won't do business with someone who treats us poorly.
Brilliant!
